Gašper Bertoncelj
Born in 1978 in Kranj, Slovenia. At an early stage of his life Gasper knew his life would be music. He started playing the trumpet at the age of nine and shortly after switched to his life-long passion – drums. Already as a teenager Gasper played with amateur and professional jazz, rock and brass bands. Upon high school graduation, he was admitted into the Bruckner Conservatory in Linz, Austria where he studied with Doug Hammond, Allan Praskin, Harry Sokal. That is where he obtained his first academic diploma in music. He then moved to New York and enrolled for a Master of Arts program at The City College of The City University of New York. With John Patitucci, Victor Lewis and Billy Drummond as mentors, Gasper honed his technique and developed his musicality. It was in the Jazz capital of the world that he got the chance to play and befriend notable musicians. For the past six years Gasper has lived and worked in New York and that is where he finds inspiration and nourishes his creativity at the present. This is Gasper Bertoncelj's second album as a leader.
