JOSEPH SHERIDAN LEFANU was Irish writer and editor. He is best known for his gothic spooky stories and mystery novels. He was a master of creating shuddering atmosphere. With his horror story Carmilla he significantly influenced the history of vampire stories. Few movies used Carmilla as the basis for their stories and Bram Stoker’s Dracula was also strongly influenced by it. From the accompanying text
