In the summer of 1835. One night, drunk, Dohtar falls into the Ljubljanica River and wakes up the next morning on the bank in front of the Trnovo Church. To his horror, he realizes that he dragged from the river the half-decomposed body of a strangled woman. Metternich’s eccentric envoy from Vienna claims to believe in his innocence, but gives him only ten days to uncover the real perpetrators — otherwise, he will imprison Dohtar himself. As Dohtar investigates the murder, he quickly realizes, despite all his poetic imagination, that far more is going on in the city than he ever imagined.
