About the Book

In the third installment of the Edgar Chaos fantasy adventure, we find ourselves in a world of darkness and rare light—quite literally—following a catastrophe that extinguishes magic. The more important a city in Inkrematere is, and the more it possesses rare magical resources and light nymphs, the less it is consumed by the unnatural darkness that never lifts. Pan Noma remains a city of sunlight, as it is home to the one who controls nearly all the magic in the world—yet he holds as many secrets as he does enemies.

The new elven queen, Floria Kastra, inexperienced and without trusted allies, struggles to lead her kingdom down the right path. On the other side of the world, Kvint secretly explores the archives of the Institute of Artificial Magic, searching for ways to bring magic back to Inkrematere. Wandering through the northern forests, Arabela discovers that behind the political and military schemes lies a far greater threat—one that will spare no one.

Meanwhile, the dragon Nightmare begins to question the limits of his loyalty to his Guardian, and the first nymph, Illuminaria, wrestles with the question of whether a doomed and divided soul—capable of causing destruction Inkrematere has never seen—can also be the key to its salvation.

A fantasy novel where broken friendships evolve into complex alliances, and intrigue and tension drive the search for what every living being needs to survive—light.

Julija Lukovnjak

Julija Lukovnjak (b. 2000) graduated with the highest grades from secondary school in Maribor (The Maribor Second Gymnasium) and in 2019 began studying comparative literature with literary theory and philosophy at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Ljubljana. She got the idea for the character of Edgar Kaos, a human boy who is the only one able to save the land of Incrematera, and the creatures that secretly despise him, when she was only eleven. Over the next five years Edgar’s story developed into a magical epic of almost four hundred pages. Part one, The Imaginary Worlds of Edgar Kaos (Sanje, 2021), was merely an introduction into a dangerous and exciting magical adventure. It was followed by the second part, The World is a Shadow (of Edgar Kaos) (Goga, 2023). Over the coming years Julia hopes to complete the planned pentalogy.
