When a body is discovered deep under the snow in an idyllic ski village, an avalanche of secrets is unleashed revealing that no one is as innocent as they seem. Especially the main character Vera, the vital and determined, but also lofty, calculating and untouchable ninety-year-old owner of the family hotel, without whom nothing happens in Strmčnik. The carefully concealed conflicts characterizing the relationships of the of the villagers and are gradually coming to the fore also go back several generations. Thus is no surprise that even the police inspector leading the murder case is actually more interested in power games from half a century ago than in a fresh corpse. Through the relationships of its heroes and heroines, the novel Čmrljev zleb opens the wounds of half-past history and shows that everyone has a past that they cannot escape. Just like in Strmčnik, no one can escape Vera’s tentacles.
