About the Book

Olga is sitting on a ferry in the middle of the Wadden Sea. She is travelling to an unfamiliar island to meet a half-brother whose existence she only recently discovered, while turning over different versions of the past in her mind. Did the woman who gave birth to her really give her up for adoption? Did she ever think about her? Did she regret her decision? Did she try to find her?

On an island slowly being eroded by the sea, Olga, together with her half-brother Theo and Jakob, an elderly sheep farmer, begins to unravel the tangled web of lives and events that brought her north. Amid stories of fishermen’s widows and a young woman forced to give birth far from everything she knows, new bonds begin to form, but so do ever-deepening uncertainties.
