The Child from the Forest

Price range: 19,99 € through 24,90 €

The debut novel by Sergej Curanović offers an imaginary world highly atypical of Slovenian literature. The Child from the Forest is an ecological crime novel, a mystery, and a socio-political novel infused with elements of surrealism. The novel is a product of imagination—more than that, it is the kind of imagination Slovenian literature sorely lacks.

About the Book

A man arrives in a village to take over his inherited family homestead. There, he discovers the diary entries of his great-grandfather, a police inspector from the beginning of the last century. The great-grandfather was consumed by the mysterious disappearance of a local professor. The professor, too, left behind a hidden diary containing an account of how, deep in the forest, through a union with an ancient oak tree, he conceived the titular Child—a young girl who grew from the trunk while remaining fused with it. Is this pure fantasy? Or is it a coded record of real, albeit perhaps controversial, events
