LIT-UP EU – Supporting Linguistic Diversity in European Literature
LIT-UP is a European cooperation project co-funded by the Creative Europe Programme of the European Union, designed to strengthen the position of literature written in lesser-used European languages within the international publishing market.
The project responds to structural imbalances in the European book sector, where a small number of dominant languages and markets prevail. LIT-UP therefore focused on empowering publishers, authors, and literary professionals working in smaller linguistic communities by enhancing their professional skills, international visibility, and cross-border cooperation.
The project brought together partners and participants working in the following languages and regions:
- Catalan, Galician and Basque (Spain)
- Welsh (Wales, United Kingdom)
- Frisian (Friesland, the Netherlands)
- Sardinian (Italy)
- Slovenian (Slovenia)
- Serbian (Serbia)
Through a programme of training modules, workshops, international events and networking activities, LIT-UP addressed key challenges faced by professionals working in lesser-used languages, such as access to international markets, rights management, audience development and strategic promotion.
By fostering knowledge exchange and collaboration across linguistic and national borders, LIT-UP contributed to:
- safeguarding and promoting European linguistic and cultural diversity,
- strengthening the competitiveness of small-language publishing ecosystems,
- and creating sustainable professional networks within the European literary field.
Through its participation in LIT-UP, Goga Publishing actively supported initiatives that reinforce diversity, inclusion and long-term resilience in the European literary landscape.
